 Scholarships

2012 academic year"

 

The Upper Arlington Rotary Club is now accepting applications for Academic-Year Ambassadorial Scholarships for the 2011-2012 academic year. The scholarships are for an academic year (usually nine months) to study in a college or university in a country outside the United States where Rotary clubs are located (which includes most countries in the world).

Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarships are among the most prestigious in the world and the Academic-Year scholarship is worth up to $25,000.00. Scholarship recipients are expected to have an excellent academic record with a commitment to a life of service and a desire to achieve better international understanding and world peace.

While scholarship recipients must be eligible to be admitted to the school on his or her own, the appointment is made by Rotary International to an institution of Rotary’s choice, but usually to one of the five schools the candidate has researched and listed in priority order on the application. Scholarship winners are expected to be proficient in the language of the host school; therefore, the scholarship is not appropriate for foreign language study.

Applicants must have completed at least two years of college or university course work when the scholarship begins during the 2011-2012 academic year. A majority of applicants anticipate using the scholarship for graduate study, but the scholarship is not limited to graduate work. Rotarians, their spouses, and lineal descendents of Rotarians are not eligible to apply.

Application forms and other information may be found at www.rotary.org and downloaded from that source. Completed applications, including reference statements must be submitted to Richard A. Ray, 2291 Picket Post Lane, Columbus, OH 43220 by April 24, 2010. The Scholarship Committee of the Upper Arlington Rotary Club expects to interview applicants on May 01 and make recommendations to Rotary District 6690, whose Scholarship Committee will interview candidates recommended by the Upper Arlington Club and other District clubs in early June.
